Review: Snatch (2000)

Posted on

This review, unlike some of the dialogue in Snatch will be 100% understandable. I’m talking to you Brad Pitt.

So the entire film rotates around on 84-carrat diamond and the intertwining stories of several boxers, hitmen, bookies, and gangsters. While they don’t all collide at the conclusion, each storyline has consequences and carries in the others. The main characters are Frankie Four Fingers (Benicio Del Toro), Bullet Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones), Boris the Blade (Rade Serbedzija), Mickey (Pitt), Turkish (Jason Statham), Brick Top (Alan Ford), and a few more. Quite the ensemble, in case you didn’t know that already.

For as much as I was scratching my head and wondering what was happening and being said, Snatch is one of the most entertaining movies I’ve seen. The various plot lines might not make sense all of the time, but what’s stopping you from buckling in and enjoying the ride. Guy Ritchie’s fast pace editing, Statham’s narration, and some hilarious slap-stick moments are all combined to make this one of the most surprisingly funny and action packed movie I’ve ever seen. Not to mention a great, albeit short lived performance by Benicio Del Toro and one of my favorite Brad Pitt characters of all time.

My Rating: A-
