Return of the Jedi, the final chapter in this 6 part “dual-trilogy” finds everyone in a dither. Han is still in carbonite, Luke is no where to be found, and Jabba has just taken Chewy and Leia under his command. After all of this is sorted out, we go to the only logically atmosphere left after desert and snow; the forest! Now, they must destroy the defenses of the sequel to the Death Star (DSII?). And of course, it all leads to a final battle between Luke and Darth Vader.
The biggest dilemma Return of the Jedi faces, is does it satisfy? After all, this is where the story ends: Luke Skywalker battling Anakin Skywalker. Is it the best of the saga? I really don’t think so. But I do think it finishes the story perfectly. Anakin has his redemption. The good guys defeat the bad guys (again). The best part of seeing Return of the Jedi in light of the rest of the series is how insane Luke has become. And I mean insane in a good way. The dude’s confidence, or swag is off the charts, and obviously we knew that Anakin could have been the same from the prequels. In a way, the viewer is vindicated after seeing him succeed in denying the dark side after his father caved so easily.
So lets tie a pretty bow on this epic, and call it a night.
