Review: The Other Guys (2010)

Posted on

People who take cop movies too seriously, leave now. First off, this is a joke. Do not make the mistake of taking this movie too seriously. I mean, really, Will Ferrell is in it. To me, it’s like a high quality, actually funny version of  those terrible spoof movies (Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, etc.). Any of the beginning scenes with Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson are just making fun of the pure ridiculousness of cop movies. Won’t spoil it, but the end of the beginning sequence might be the most unexpected hilarious moment I’ve seen in a while.

The casting department did an amazing job filling in the spots around Ferrell. Mark Wahlberg does his usually cool tough guy thing (which works really well in this instance), and Eva Mendes adds some eye candy, but the biggest surprise was Michael Keaton. Playing the Police Captain/ Bed Bath and Beyond manager, he stole every scene he was in.

However, that is really those might be the only things going for it. The plot wasn’t anything special, and some of the gags weren’t funny every single time. But now that it is out on DVD, I wouldn’t mind spending a few bucks to rent. I think it’s worth at least that.
